Tawny Owls Y1

Spring Term – Totally Terrific Toys

This term we will be continuing our learning about Totally Terrific Toys. Coming up in week 2 we will be taking part in a workshop where we can delve into some historical toys. Following this, we will also be having a go at making our own toys too. It is set to be a lot of fun! :)

PE will take place on Thursday mornings with Mr Pearce, so please come to school wearing your PE kit.

We have another wonderful, jam-packed term ahead. For now though, we hope you all have a wonderful break and look forward to seeing you all on Monday :)

Mrs Pearce, Mrs Quartermain, Mrs Sansom, Miss Putt and Mrs Marah

This term we will start by looking at alternative pronunciations for the ear trigraph. We will then look at the digraphs wh and ph. We will continue to apply our phonics knowledge to segment and blend real and alien words.

  • Each morning the children need to arrive at school between 8:45 am and 9:00 am. The blue gate will open at 8:45 am and close at 9:00 am
  • Home time is at 3:30 pm and the children will walk round to the gate at the top of the playground where they will be dismissed by a member of staff.
  • The children will need to bring in a named water bottle each day.
  • PE this term will take place on Thursday mornings (starting 27th February).
    • Children will need to come into school wearing their PE kit. Please make sure that all of your children's items are NAMED so they can easily be recognised. We all know how unpredictable the British weather can be and the children will be doing PE both inside and outside, so send them in with layers and a waterproof. The children will need to be wearing the following items:
      • A plain white PE top
      • Navy or black bottoms. These could include:
        • shorts
        • joggers
        • leggings
      • A plain blue or black PE jumper
      • A pair of trainers
  • Reading Books - each Friday the children will bring home a Monster Phonics book, plus another book of their choice. The children will read the Monster Phonics book during our Guided Reading sessions before bringing it home to share with you. Please continue to sign the reading diaries each time you read at home. The reading diaries should be in school every day. The children have a zipped plastic wallet to keep their diary and reading books in. This must be with the books each day.
  • Homework - the children will bring home one piece of homework in their green folders. This is a consolidation activity where the children can practise the learning that they have done in class. The children should be able to complete this activity quite confidently by themselves.
