Boreal Owls Y4
April 2025
Happy Easter! We hope you've all had a lovely holiday and that the children are refreshed and raring to go for this term.
PE Days: PE days will be Tuesday (afternoon) and Friday (afternoon) this term. Please ensure your child wears the correct, smart PE kit (dark colours, no large logos) on that day, hair tied back and earrings removed before school. If they have recently had them pierced, please could they bring suitable tape to cover them for PE.
Guitars: Our guitar lessons continue this term on Thursdays. Please ensure your child has their guitar with them on that day.
TTRS: The national multiplication check for all year four children will be held in June this year. Whilst we ensure that this does not become stressful for the children, all times table practise using Rockstars or old fashioned verbal recital and quick fire questioning that you can do at home is positively encouraged. It's particularly lovely to see how proud the children are when they 'go green' on Rock Stars and know all their tables. If you have any queries about TTRS just let us know. By the end of year 4, the National Curriculum expectation is that children should know all their times tables fluently. Using TTRS is the most similar way of replicating the test.
Homework: A fortnightly maths sheet is sent home based upon the children's learning in the classroom for that week. Spelling tests will still be on a Monday and start again next week (week 2 of term). The children will also have a creative grid, the same as they did last term. Please see below for this term's spelling sheets and creative grid.
Reading records: Reading records will still be checked every Monday morning and we expect children to read three times a week (minimum) to an adult and record it in their yellow diary. We are very lucky to have one of the best book shelves in the school and this term we will be setting the children a new reading challenge to use the books and try new authors!
Reading book: This term we will be reading 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' as our whole class reading book. We do have quite a few copies in school but would be grateful if you'd like to buy your child a copy to make sure that we have enough. Their reading really benefits from having their own book but as always, this is not compulsory. We can't wait to get started on this wonderful classic because we always find it's the most popular book we read and one of the things the children love the most in year 4!
Contacting us: If there is something worrying you, we would much rather you talk to us about any problems sooner rather than later. Please catch us at the end of the day or email us through the office.
We are looking forward to getting started on our new term of learning together!
